After a religious service, gunmen kidnap an ex-A’Ibom permanent sec

Ignatius Brown, a former Akwa Ibom State permanent secretary, was abducted by gunmen on Monday in the state’s Abak Local Government Area.

Following a church meeting with his members that evening, Brown, the chairman of the Saint John’s Catholic Church Council in the Abak LGA, was kidnapped as he made his way home.

Before that fatal day, the retired permanent secretary who was from Etinan Local Government Area had lived in Abak for many years.

According to an eyewitness who gave his name as Mr. Aniefiok Marcus, the thugs overtook the PS’s driver a few meters from his home after following the PS from the church along the Abak-Ikot Ekpene route.

The hoodlums, he claimed, “followed him from the Saint John’s Catholic Cathedral along Abak-Ikot Ekpene route, and overpowered the driver close to the house at Udokpo street, after shooting intermittently to frighten away other vehicles and commuters on the road.”

“When they (the kidnappers) were able to stop Sir Brown’s Toyota RAV4 SUV, they bundled the driver out, took control of the car, and sped off with him down on the ground.

He did, however, note that after the victim vanished to an unidentified location, the automobile was later found abandoned along the Abak-Ekparakwa route.

One suspect has been apprehended, according to Odiko Macdon, the State Police Public Relations Officer, who also provided the command with the information they needed to find the other kidnappers.

We have already received the report, and a preliminary investigation is under place right now, he stated. The Officer-in-Charge of kidnapping and other tactical teams have been designated by the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durusinmi, to make sure the victim is safely retrieved and returned to his family.

Much had already been accomplished in accordance with the CP’s orders. I am confident that the victim of the kidnapping will soon be liberated because we now have one person in our custody who is providing us with the essential information.
