Air Force to partner Ekiti on cargo airport

According to the The nation news NIGERIAN Air Force (NAF) has expressed its readiness to partner Ekiti State on its agro-allied airport project.

Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubarkar, who visited Governor Kayode Fayemi yesterday, said NAF would establish a security unit at the airport.

Abubakar said his visit was in continuation of the meeting with Fayemi at the Force Headquarters in Abuja last month.

He said the force would continue to protect Nigerians.

The Air Force chief noted that President Muhammadu Buhari was passionate about the country’s security, with the creation of 13 units in the last four and a half years.

He added that NAF had procured 22 aircraft to support security agencies to combat crime.

“Since the establishment of these units and other efforts by security agencies, we have seen substantial progress in terms of managing the security in those areas.

I am very excited with the idea of a cargo airport in Ekiti; the potential are enormous and I assure you again that the Air Force will be most willing to be part of this. That is why persons relevant to the project are here.

“We have the chief of General Operations, who deals with flying; chief of Logistics (who ensures we get an apron and that the airport is cared for); director of Air Traffic Services (who sees to logistics relating to air traffic services). I assure Your Excellency that the Nigerian Air Force is ready to work with you to ensure that you achieve the airport.”

Fayemi said establishing the cargo airport would trigger the local economy and support medical and biomedical resources in the state.

The governor, who said the state had produced best minds in medicine with establishments outside the state, hoped the airport would attract them back to the state to serve people and humanity.

“What we are trying to do is develop a goal to cargo airport that is not just useful for Ekiti, but for neighbouring states,” he said.

The governor restated his administration’s resolve to establish a smart city around the airport to create a knowledge economy hub, which would sustain the state in its educational heritage and create wealth for the people.
