JAMB admission deadlines for 2025/2026

Following directives issued at the 2025 Policy Meeting chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education, all tertiary institutions have been instructed to conclude their admission processes by the end of 2025 according to the schedule below:

Public universities: To complete admissions by 31st October, 2025.
Private universities: To complete admissions by 30th November, 2025.
All other institutions (public and private): complete admissions by 31st December, 2025.

All institutions are encouraged to finalise admissions well in advance of these deadlines. Even where an institution is not yet ready to commence the new academic session, such an institution should conduct its admission and archive it. By this policy directive, all admission processes must be concluded within the prescribed timelines. Stakeholders at the policy meeting reached this decision to stabilise the academic calendar and ensure equitable access to admission slots across all tiers of tertiary education.

Consequently, institutions conducting post-UTME screenings are expected to conclude those exercises in good time to comply with the 2025 admission schedule.

JAMB reactivates portal for uploading O'level results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) hereby informs all candidates who participated in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that the portal for uploading their O'level results has been officially reactivated.

Candidates are advised to proceed to any of JAMB’s accredited centres nationwide to carry out the upload of their O'level results. This process is essential for the completion of admission procedures and must be done promptly to avoid any delays in consideration for admission into tertiary institutions.

Please note that only accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres are authorised to perform this upload. Candidates are therefore urged to verify the accreditation status of any facility before proceeding.

Key points from the JAMB 2024 admission policy meeting

The JAMB policy meeting to address the admission cut-off marks and other related topics was conducted today, Thursday, July 18, 2024, as previously stated. Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Honorable Minister of Education, presided over the meeting. The JAMB registrar, vice chancellors, and other education stakeholders were in attendance.

Much of the deliberations during the meeting were regarding the admission guidelines and acceptable minimum admissions standards for all tertiary institutions across Nigeria for 2024

JAMB releases the 2024 most sought after institutions

The University of Ilorin in Nigeria and Lagos State University have topped the list of most sought-after universities for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. According to a presentation by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2024 policy meeting, the top ten institutions were recognized due to the large number of applicants during the 2024 UTME registration session.

The University of Ilorin ranked top on the ranking, followed by Lagos State University. We have provided the list of the top 10 most sought-after universities below.

JAMB cut-off scores for 2024 admissions

JAMB has set 140 as the cut-off level for university admissions. The board also set 100 as the minimal cut-off point for admission to polytechnics and colleges of education. Professor Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, said this on Thursday in Abuja during the 2024 JAMB Policy Meeting.

Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, attended the meeting, as did vice-chancellors, rectors, and registrars of higher education institutions, as well as other stakeholders.

The board also set N2,000 as the post-UTME screening fee. According to JAMB, any institution interested in conducting any type of screening may do so, but the fee for the screening should not exceed N2,000.

Following the revelation of the cut-off points, public tertiary institutions will begin to publicize their Post-UTME sales forms and screening dates. Candidates should be on the lookout for similar announcements.

JAMB announces top scorers in 2024 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has released a list of the top scorers in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

AMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede, a professor, mentioned the candidates during a presentation at an ongoing admission policy conference in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.

Three candidates received the highest possible score of 367 out of 400, according to a list supplied by Mr Oloyede.

Mr Oloyede added that when JAMB issued the results, just 8,401 applicants, or 0.5%, scored above 300 in the exam.

He stated that 77,070 people (4.2% of the total) scored 250 or higher, while 439,974 people (24%) earned 200 or above.

JAMB to impose 18 years as the minimum entry age into tertiary institutions beginning next year

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Education, has mandated that candidates under the age of 18 shall not be admitted to postsecondary institutions beginning next year.

The Minister of Education initially announced that the new policy would take effect this year. However, this elicited conflicting reactions, and after much consideration, it was decided that this new policy would take effect next year rather than this year, given the majority of candidates who registered for JAMB this year were under the age of 18 and were unaware of this new development at the time of registration.

According to the minister, the 18-year standard is consistent with the educational system's 6-3-3-4 framework.

Professor Mamman went on to say that for individuals who are unable to acquire entrance to postsecondary institutions, the Ministry of Education is teaching skills to primary school students.

2025 UTME Registration: JAMB to Use Customized SIMS for Candidates

As part of efforts to address the perennial issue of stolen or missing Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has agreed to collaborate with the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to provide UTME candidates with customised phone SIMs for UTME registration.
Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar, said this during a visit to his office by a group from the West Africa Civil Societies Forum (WACSOF) on Thursday, June 27, 2024 in Abuja.

2025 UTME Registration: JAMB to Use Customized SIMS for Candidates
According to the Registrar, the bespoke SIMs would only be used for UTME registration and would be available to parents only, with a five-year expiry period.

He expressed confidence that the new SIM system would address the avalanche of issues linked with candidate registration. He informed the coalition of civil society groups that the Board is committed to making UTME registration not just seamless, but also more flexible and user-friendly.

Furthermore, the Registrar highlighted the Board's intention to constantly develop new ways to use cutting-edge technology to provide efficient service delivery to Nigerians.

JAMB holds 2024 cut-off point and admission policy meeting on July 18th

The Policy Meeting on Admissions into Nigeria's Tertiary Institutions has been scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024 by JAMB. Prof. Tahir Mamman, Hon. Minister of Education, will lead the meeting, which will also include other key stakeholders in the education sector.

These critical stakeholders include the heads of regulatory agencies such as the National University Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), the heads of the country's tertiary institutions, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The admissions policy meeting sets the tone for every given year's admissions exercise, as well as the development of admission guidelines. It also provides application statistics, evaluates candidates' performance, and establishes acceptable minimum admissions standards for all tertiary schools in Nigeria for the current year.

During the exercise, the Registrar will present reports on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications, as well as an analysis of key performance indicators that could shape the government's admission policy directions. Furthermore, the gathering would inform stakeholders on the key difficulties that arose during the previous year's admissions process.

In addition, the policy meeting would consider candidates' performance in the current year's UTME to establish the year's minimum admissible score. It should be noted that stakeholders had already agreed on a minimum admission requirement for admission to universities, polytechnics, and institutes of education.

Furthermore, the meeting would determine the year's admission requirements while kicking off the admission process for the current year; discuss unresolved issues from the previous academic year; and, at the same time, assess stakeholders' compliance with existing advisories and propose further amendments as needed. JAMB announces supplemental UTME and released 3,921 outstanding 2024 UTME results

JAMB has announced that a supplementary UTME has been scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2024 for the following candidates: (20,550) candidates whose results are currently being investigated; 2,702 candidates whose fingers could not be verified; and CAILS-KWASU candidates who were unable to register for Direct Entry. This was announced in a statement issued by JAMB's Head of Media, Fabian Benjamin.

The statement added that 3,921 outstanding 2024 UTME results that had been cleared have now been released.

It urged concerned candidates to check their results by sending RESULT to 55019 or 66019 to ascertain their status as those cleared would have their results while those rescheduled would be told that they had been rescheduled.

The rescheduled candidates are to print their supplementary Examination Notification Slip on the JAMB website from Tuesday, 4th June 2024 to ascertain their designated examination centres.

The rescheduled examination, which is taking place on Saturday, 22nd June 2024, two weeks from now, is to give affected candidates adequate time to prepare for the exercise.

This notice does not concern candidates whose results have been released. Candidates with prima facie case(s) of examination misconduct, would be further interrogated to establish their culpability after which appropriate measures would be taken on them and announced”, the statement added.
