Herdsmen kidnap ex-Gov Alao-Akala’s aide, demand N100m ransom

The late former governor of Oyo State, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala’s business empire has been thrown into turmoil, following the kidnap of a supervisor in his farm at Jabata in Surulere Local Government Area of the state.

The kidnappers, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, were said to have demanded a ransom of N100 million.

This is coming amid the joy of the birth of a set of twins by the first son of the late Bobagunwa of Ogbomosoland, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, whose naming ceremony is expected to come up today (Wednesday).

The incident, which happened at about 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, has put the family and business associates of the late former governor, who died on January 12, in suspense.

Confirming the incident, a close family source disclosed that the kidnappers, whom he revealed were Fulani herdsmen, had since opened line of communication with the family, demanding N100 million for the victim’s release.

“Yes, they are Fulani herdsmen quite alright, but they speak a smattering of Yoruba.

“The victim was kidnapped in the farm amid staccato of gunshots. We have been trying to negotiate with them even though the police had been informed,” the source disclosed.
