JFK was once off with a mistress when Jackie Kennedy gave birth, Carly Simon says

Jackie Kennedy Onassis managed to largely accept the notorious philandering of her husband, friend Carly Simon said. But not all of the the 35th president’s behavior.

Simon told the “Today” show in an interview aired Tuesday that her friend was bothered by the fact that John F. Kennedy missed the birth of a child while spending time with another woman

 

For instance, his not being there for the birth of a child, his being off with a mistress while she was in the hospital,” Simon said. “There are various things that he did that by comparison to having a mistress must have hurt more.”

Simon gave the interview with the NBC program as her book, “Touched by the Sun: My Friendship with Jackie,” hits shelves. The singer said she met the former first lady in 1983 on Martha’s Vineyard, and a close friendship blossomed.

Onassis died in 1994.

Simon, 74, said in her book, “In a cheerful but resigned way, (Jackie) told me that of course she knew about” about her husband’s affairs, according to NBC News. However, “She just didn’t mind their presence as much as she might have. Because she knew he loved her much, much more than any of his dalliances.
