In the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, at least 50 people have died and more than 200 were injured after a gunman opened fire on attendees of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Police named Stephen Paddock, 64, as the gunman, and said that the Mesquite, Nev., resident was now dead. A motive for the attack remains unclear. Police said that Paddock’s traveling companion, Marilou Danley, has been located, as have two vehicles believed to be associated with the gunman.

According to local reports, the concert-goers were shot with a high-powered assault rifle from the 32nd floor of the hotel. Police responded to the incident about 10 p.m. local time.

A Las Vegas hospital first reported that two people were killed in the attack, with 24 injured. But later in the night, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Joseph Lombardo confirmed that at least 20 had died; the death toll was then updated a few hours later to “in excess of 50.” Read more More Than 50 Dead, 200 Injured at Las Vegas Country Music Festival (Updated)
