Olu-Lagos peace walk: You will walk alone, EndSARS activist Rinu replies Sanwo

According to punch News Human rights activist and EndSARS campaigner, Rinu Oduala, has joined the number of voices rejecting the Lagos State Governor’s offer to the youths for a peace walk.

The governor in a press conference held on Tuesday spoke on the recent findings of the EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry which was set up to investigate cases of police brutality in the state, as well as the tragic shooting of protesters at the Lekki toll gate on the 20th of October, 2020.

In his speech, the governor called on several of the EndSARS campaigners to join him in a walk for peace which is to hold in December.

“In December, I will be leading A WALK FOR PEACE to herald the healing of our land. Let me use this occasion to extend an open invitation to our youths, members of the diplomatic corps, civil society groups, students, and the media as well as other stakeholders to join me,” he said.

Responding to the call, Rinu took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to post a picture of the Governor which, “Mr Gov. You will walk alone,” was boldly written.

In the caption, Rinu maintained that “No justice no peace.”

She further charged the Governor to “do the necessary and stop performative actions”.

“@jidesanwoolu No healing without justice! We want work on justice, not empty walks! Police brutality is still prevalent in Lagos State!” she wrote in another post.

Rinu’s rejection of the Governor’s call comes after her fellow campaigners, popular rapper, Falz, as well as comedian, Mr Macaroni, also rejected the Governor’s offer.

Macaroni in a tweet recalled how he was brutally beaten by members of the Nigerian Police Force while participating in a protest earlier this year.

He further asked the governor to begin genuine peacekeeping and further earn people’s trust by “first implementing the recommendations of the panel.”

In the same vein, Folarin Falana, @falzthebahdguy on Twitter, while pointing to the issues of police brutality still prevalent in the state, described the peace walk as a “joke”.
