Verstappen takes advantage of Ferrari’s failure to win the championship

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, a seven-time world champion, and George Russell, who started from his first pole position, were both 7.8 seconds behind him when he crossed the finish line. He began from 10th on the grid after engine issues in qualifying on Saturday necessitated a new power unit.

Who would have believed we would win this race when we awoke this morning, the Dutchman remarked.

Pre-race predictions had the Italian team as favorites to manage and win with some ease as the Red Bulls were in 10th and 11th place on the grid with Russell on pole and Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari in second and third.

However, a combination of poor tyre management, sluggish pit stops, and dubious strategy caused them to finish fifth and sixth, respectively, behind Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull, who started 11th but appeared to be heading for victory.

Verstappen remarked, “I was hoping I could come close to a podium, but it was pretty hard out there.

But we were quite reactive, always pitting at the appropriate moment, and we had a really solid strategy.

Hamilton, who started the race in eighth place and was aiming to add to his record-breaking tally of eight victories in Hungary, finished second after recording his fifth consecutive podium finish.

I was clearly having trouble at first, but I gradually became more at ease with the balance, he admitted.

“I got off to a great start, so I want to thank you for that,”

“Although the other men have the upper hand, we are definitely reducing the gap. We’re hoping to recruit more of them for the second half of the season so we can start combating with them.”

“I was perplexed”

Despite having a solid first stint on the medium compound tyres and losing temperature in the closing laps, Russell, who was in the lead for 30 laps, admitted he battled.

“However, the team did a wonderful job, and with pole position and a double podium, we can see that we are moving forward. I am incredibly proud of what everyone has accomplished.”

Sainz and Leclerc were both shocked by their outcomes.

Leclerc, who was in the lead and appeared to be the likely winner, remarked, “I felt really powerful and quite comfortable on the mediums.”

“I wanted to stay out and I don’t know why I was called in. I was confused by that.

“I lost the race on the hard tyres and I don’t know why. We need to speak about this inside the team.”

Sainz said he felt he was slower than expected.

“It is what it is,” he said. “We struggled as a team and in the lower temperatures the track changed and the car and the tyres did not perform.

“We need to analyse this to see what we did wrong and, after the summer break, come back with a better package. We have to speak about it inside the team to get to do this better.”
