Attack on Soldiers in Abia An Affront To Peace And Security – Senate Committee
The Senate Committee on Army denounced the “heinous and cowardly attack” on Operation Udoka troops at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Aba, Abia State, on May 30, 2024, during Biafra Remembrance Day.
According to a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the assault was carried out by IPOB/ESN terrorists, resulting in the terrible loss of five military soldiers.
The military also acknowledged the deaths of six civilians in the crossfire.
The Senate Committee on Army responded in a statement signed by its chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, on Saturday, saying the incident is an affront to our country’s peace and security.
“Our hearts go out to the families and colleagues of the slain troops, whose sacrifice in the line of duty will never be forgotten. Each soldier killed is a tremendous loss to our country’s defense and stability.
“We encourage a thorough investigation into this terrible attack to ensure that justice is served and those guilty be held accountable. The public, who are these terrorists’ lifeline, must grasp the gravity of their activities and stop from supporting such harmful groups.
The Senate Committee on Army expresses its steadfast support for the armed services’ efforts to safeguard our citizens and promote regional peace. We urge the military to respond decisively and resolutely to resist this act of terror, ensuring that the organization responsible suffers massive military pressure until they are completely defeated.
“In times like this, togetherness, resilience, and collective resolve are essential. “We must unite against all forms of violence and insurgency that endanger the security and stability of our beloved country,” the statement stated.
