The Former Goalkeeper of Aston Villa Explains Why Ronaldo Is Superior to Messi

In contrast to his career competitor, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi rarely performs well in crucial games, according to former Aston Villa goalkeeper David James, who said that Messi is not his greatest goal scorer ever.
Over the past 10 years, there has been an ongoing discussion between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo about who is the greatest of all time. Even though both players are past their peak, this topic still divides the football community.

Remember that the rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo peaked when they were players at FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively. The Argentinean football player dominated the Portuguese at that time, winning both the La Liga championship and Spain’s top goalscorer award.

When Messi moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 and Ronaldo moved to Juventus in Spain in 2018, the rivalry persisted.
Right now, Messi and Ronaldo are playing outside of Europe. The 36-year-old Messi is under contract with Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, while the 39-year-old Portuguese star is with Saudi Pro League team Al Nassr.

53-year-old English goalkeeper David James thinks that former Manchester United player Messi is the greatest player in football history, despite the fact that Messi won the FIFA World Cup—a trophy Ronaldo is unlikely to win—and that the Argentine has three more Ballon d’Or awards than the Portuguese (five).

The former goalie remarked on Sony Sports Network, “Yeah [Ronaldo is my choice for Golden Boot at Euro 2024], I think he will score a free-kick as well.”
It speaks something when Rio Ferdinand claims that Ronaldo is the hardest-working player he has ever played alongside. Unquestionably superior to Messi, given that the latter is not always present for important games.

“I believe that the argument about who is the greatest has long since ended. While Lionel Messi excelled at a single club, Cristiano Ronaldo has established himself with many league titles and continent-spanning achievements. He is the embodiment of what you aspire to be.
