Twenty-two kids lost their lives when a two-story school building in Jos, Plateau state, north-central Nigeria, fell on Friday during morning sessions.

Shortly after pupils, most of whom were 15 years old or younger, started classes, the Saints Academy college collapsed.

According to Plateau police spokesman Alfred Alabo, a total of 154 pupils were trapped; 132 were freed and are undergoing medical attention for their wounds.

Emergency personnel, medical professionals, and law enforcement officials promptly arrived at the location.

The state government ordered the closure of other schools experiencing similar problems, blaming the collapse on the school’s shoddy construction and proximity to a riverbank.

In Nigeria, building collapses are becoming more frequent, frequently as a result of inadequate maintenance and lax enforcement of construction codes.
