India Chief Dinesh Malkani quits Cisco

Dinesh Malkani has quit Cisco Systems after a seven year stint with the networking conglomerate.

Dinesh was at the helm of Cisco as President for India and SAARC for a little over three years.

The reason for Dinesh’s sudden exit is not known given the fact Cisco recently launched several initiatives in India including company’s first manufacturing facility in Maharashtra, recent launch of Cyber Lab Range, upcoming SOC in Pune to name a few.

Dinesh also spearheaded Cisco’s new GTM around digital transformation of companies in India and also the onus on smart cities in the country.

“Leadership transitions are a very natural and normal part of a company transformation. While it can be hard to see good leaders go, it gives other talent a chance to step up and gives the company a chance to bring in new perspectives. With an exceptional leadership team and wealth of engineering talent and skill, Cisco India will continue to focus on delivering value to our customers, partners and employees,” said Cisco in a statement to IDG India.

As President, Dinesh has been responsible for sales, operations, growth initiatives, and investments in strategic alliances in the theatre. Under his leadership, Cisco empowered its customers to create and deliver value as every city and company in India and SAARC becomes digital.

In the next couple of weeks, Cisco will announce its new President for Cisco India and SAARC as per reports.

Dinesh will continue in his role until July 31, 2017 and remain at Cisco till the end of September 2017, working with the new India and SAARC leader and Irving Tan, President, Cisco APJ, to ensure smooth and orderly transition of his responsibilities.

The new leader for Cisco India and SAARC is expected to assume responsibilities on August 1, 2017 and will report to Irving, President, Cisco APJ.

After joining Cisco in 2010 in APJC, Dinesh moved to India in April 2013 to run Cisco India and SAARC’s Enterprise, Service Provider & Public Sector business. Later he took over as President, Cisco India & SAARC in June 2014. 

The leadership transition has been part of Cisco’s finely tuned succession planning process. As part of their formal sucession process, Cisco searched internally and externally to find the best leader for its employees, customers and partners in India. 

In his career with Cisco, Dinesh held a variety of leadership positions across the Enterprise, Public Sector and Service Provider businesses. He has played a key role in driving strategic initiatives that are helping customers embrace digitisation and achieve higher levels of innovation and productivity through technology.

The new President for Cisco India & SAARC is expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks.

Outside of Cisco, Dinesh is a member of the Executive Council of NASSCOM and Co-Chair of the CII National Committee on Telecom and Broadband. 

With 23 years of leadership experience in the technology industry, Dinesh has deep expertise in working closely and strategically with a range of customers, and his passion for customer success is the foundation of culture for his organization. His experience of working in R&D, systems engineering and sales has greatly contributed to the successful leadership positions in his earlier roles, including those as Country Manager in China and Korea.

Dinesh has also worked with Avaya, GN Netcom to name a few and he started his career with HCL Technologies.

The new leader for Cisco India will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
