Olukoyede Restructures EFCC, Appoints Chief of Staff and 14 Zonal Directors

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has chosen Mr. Michael Nzekwe as his Chief of Staff.

He has also nominated Zonal Directors for each of the Commission’s 14 Zonal Commands as part of the EFCC’s reorganization process.

According to Olukayode, the ongoing restructure is intended to realign and strengthen the EFCC so that it can perform best on its mandate.

Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, issued a statement on Saturday announcing the new positions and adjustments.

Nzekwe, who presented himself as a top-tier investigator, lawyer, and former Commander of the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Command, is a Commission course one officer.

He has worked in several divisions of the Commission, including Legal and Prosecution, Operations (now Investigations), Internal Affairs (now Ethics and Integrity), Servicom, and Asset Forfeiture.

He is a seasoned administrator who has attended numerous trainings and seminars both at home and abroad, including the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course organized by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). The appointment is effective immediately, and he has undertaken his duties, according to the announcement.

Olukayode restructured and repositioned the EFCC, elevating all of the commission’s Zonal Commands to the status of departments, each led by a director.

To this end, 14 new Directors have been appointed to lead each of the Zonal Commands,” Oyewale said in the statement.Furthermore, to strengthen and fortify the commission’s security architecture, the EFCC’s Security Unit has been elevated to a Department, with a seasoned official appointed as Director, Security, and Chief Security official.

A new department has also been established in the Executive Chairman’s office, and it is led by former Makurdi Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Mr. Friday Ebelo, who currently serves as Director and Coordinator, Special Duties at the commission’s corporate headquarters.In addition, the previous Department of Internal Affairs has been renamed the Department of Ethics and Integrity, and minor reorganizations have occurred in various divisions at headquarters.
