Favour Ofili Prepares For 200m Semi-Finals After 100m Setback

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili made a stunning debut in the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning the women’s 200m event.
After a dismal performance in the women’s 100m, Ofili demonstrated her tenacity by winning her heat with a new season’s best time of 22.24 seconds on August 4. The victory has qualified her for the 2024 Olympics 200m women’s semi-finals, which will be held this evening.

Ofili defeated Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith in Heat 6, and her season’s best of 22.24s was the second fastest time in the heats, trailing only Gabby Thomas of the United States in 22.20s.

In a post-race interview with Making of Champions, 21-year-old Ofili radiated confidence as she aimed for the gold medal, underlining her preparation and commitment to outperform her competition.

“Mentally, I am ready, and I am trying to be more ready regardless of what happened” , commented the woman.

“All I know is that when I foot on the track, I will be the first to cross the finish line. I don’t care what race you ran before getting here; we’re all the same because we’re all Olympians.”
