Naira Marley, who had recently returned to Nigeria, has been detained, according to a statement on Tuesday night from Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police command.

Late on Tuesday, Hundeyin posted on his X (old Twitter) account, “Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities.”

Naira Marley is reportedly expected to help the police with their investigation into the death of MohBad, which has elicited conflicting responses on and off social media, according to Naija News.

Prior to the police statement, Naira Marley had already sworn to clear his name and declared his coming in Nigeria to assist the investigation into the passing of his former signee.

“I want to let you know that I’ve recently returned to Lagos, Nigeria, to help the law enforcement with their continuing investigation. I must contribute in some way to help Imole. I’ll be speaking with the police in the hopes that the truth will come to light and that justice will be served,” the musician earlier stated.
