Leicester’s promotion hopes are hit once further with a defeat at Plymouth

Leicester’s drive for automatic promotion back to the Premier League suffered another setback on Friday as they were defeated 1-0 by Plymouth.

Mustapha Bundu’s excellent finish earned Argyle their first home win since January, putting them five points clear of the relegation zone at the opposite end of the league.

After winning 13 of their first 14 league games this season, Leicester appeared to be on track to recover from their unexpected relegation last season. However, the Foxes are unravelling near the end of the season.

Enzo Maresca’s side also lost 1-0 to relegation-threatened Millwall in midweek, and they have won only two of their last six matches.Leicester remains at the top of the table, but only by goal difference, and they are one point clear of Leeds in third place.

If Leeds and Ipswich avoid defeats against Blackburn and Middlesbrough at home on Saturday, the 2016 Premier League winners might fall out of the automatic promotion places.

Plymouth, on the other hand, have gone unbeaten in three games under temporary manager Neil Dewsnip, helping them climb out of the bottom three.

Victory moves the Pilgrims up to 16th place.
