Recorded Inside the Womb: Sacred Bones to Release New Album by a Toddler

Sacred Bones has announced the release of the debut album from a new artist named Luca Yupanqui. If you haven’t heard of her before, that’s because she’s only a toddler. Her debut, Sounds of the Unborn, was recorded while she was still in the womb, using “biosonic MIDI technology” to convert her movements into music notes that were sent to different synthesizers. Below, check out the music video for the first song, “V4.3 pt. 2.” The full album is out April 2.

Luca’s parents are Psychic Ills bassist Elizabeth Hart and producer Iván Diaz Mathé, who has previously worked with Lee “Scratch” Perry. According to a press release, Sounds of the Unborn was recorded across five hour-long sessions. During the editing and mixing process, the two “edited and mixed the results of the sessions, respecting the sounds as they were produced, trying to intervene as little as possible, allowing Luca’s message to exist in its raw form.”
