Electricity workers consent to calling off their strike and restoring power
The strike by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has been called off. This came after a Wednesday discussion with Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labor and Employment.
According to a statement from the ministry’s head of press and public relations, “The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has apprehended the strike initiated by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) following an emergency meeting between the union, the government, and other stakeholders, at the request of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige.”
“Dr. Ngige established a tripartite committee to investigate and attempt to remedy the problems of electricity workers.”
The statement added that the union’s secretary general, Joe Ajaero, has “assured the minister that all necessary steps would be taken to restore the supply of electricity to the country immediately”.
