JUST IN: Egbetokun takes over as acting IGP

At the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Kayode Egbetokun has taken over as acting Inspector General of Police.

His presence comes a day after Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, honored him as the 22nd Inspector General of Police of the Nigerian Police Force.

He did point out that there is still a lot to be done.

The interim IGP acknowledged that his appointment comes with a great deal of responsibility.
He promised to lead a transparent and integrity-driven regime while making an appeal for cooperation and partnership.

In addition to emphasizing the value of community policing as one of his administration’s key policy pillars, he disclosed intentions to improve the Force’s capacity for intelligence gathering.In order to ensure internal security, he also wants to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and develop the technology-based strategy.

Egbetokun appealed to Nigerians to support the police in the fight against criminal activities.

Usman Alkali Baba, the former IGP, claimed in his parting speech that his team had a significant influence on internal security. He is confident that he is leaving behind a stronger Force.
