Naval Officer Arrested in Abuja for Murder of Ex-Chief’s Son
The Abuja Police Command has arrested Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a Nigerian Navy officer, for the murder of Aminu, the son of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retired).
Bennett Igweh, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, stated on Wednesday in Abuja that Muhammad killed Aminu and took his Prado Jeep two weeks ago.
Igwe did, however, confirm that the jeep had been found.
He stated, “About two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim, the son of Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd), a former Chief of Naval Staff, was robbed and slain in the Maitama neighborhood of Abuja, and his Prado SUV was stolen.
I’d want to inform you that Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a Nigerian Navy soldier, committed the murder. “He confessed to the crime, and we recovered the Prado Jeep.”
Speaking to journalists, Muhammad stated that he is a Navy seaman stationed at the previous Chief of Naval Staff’s residence.
He answered, “I work from home. He wanted to go out at night, at 11:30. He claimed he needed security.
So I followed him with my rifle. Along the way, he paused to check his ATM, as if he was about to buy something.
“I thought maybe I’d accompany him to a market or somewhere.
Then, when I emerged through the other door, I shot him, grabbed the car, and fled. I am a guard and a seaman in the Navy. He did not hurt me; I killed him to steal his automobile.”
A total of 94 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria detained in connection with the deaths of two police officers on Sunday were paraded.
