Lebanon Reports 8 Dead, 2000 Injured from Pager Explosions
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, at least eight people were killed and more than 2,700 were injured when their portable pagers detonated across the country on Tuesday.
Those injured include medics and Hezbollah militants.
The armed group claimed Israel for the detonations, which one official called as the “biggest security breach” in over a year of conflict with Israel.
Since the crisis in Gaza broke out in October, the two have been fighting across borders.
The Israeli military has not commented on this occurrence.
A few months ago, Hezbollah’s leader urged the group’s fighters to quit using smartphones, claiming Israel had the technology to track these devices.
It’s not apparent how the pagers were detonated.
The health ministry has urged all medical workers to report to their respective hospitals to assist with the enormous number of injured.
It has also asked healthcare workers and others who use pagers to discard them.
