Tope Alabi Speaks Out Against Rivalry Among Gospel Singers
Tope Alabi, a Nigerian gospel musician, has expressed her disgust with the rivalry among her music industry peers.
The ‘Angeli Mi’ singer bemoaned what she called fake love among gospel artists while speaking at the ‘Celebrating Jesus 7.0’ concert in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, on Sunday.
Tope Alabi expressed anger with the envy and nasty rivalries that exist between A-list and rising gospel singers.
While emphasizing the need of support and solidarity among established and rising musicians, Alabi urged her colleagues to choose their legacy and accountability to God over celebrity and fortune.
She stated, “God will hold us accountable for these things.” Let’s put a stop to it. It is past time that we recognize that we are laboring for the kingdom, not for ourselves or fame. The bigger ones distinguished themselves from the up and coming. But the bigger ones are still fighting themselves; what do you want those coming up to do?
The developing ones are already pitted against one another. These children are already backstabbing and imitating us because we began it. They are adversaries, yet when they grin at one other, they are only pretending. This is getting out of control, and God will ask us.”
