During his Asia Tour, Zuckerberg Talks With Japan’s PM About AI Risks

During a visit to Japan, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida about the dangers of generative artificial intelligence, a government spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Zuckerberg left on Tuesday night for a short trip to Asia, stopping in South Korea, Japan, and India.

While in Japan, the 39-year-old combined business and pleasure by learning how to make swords from a master artisan and went skiing with his family.
Top Japanese government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters on Wednesday that Zuckerberg and Kishida met on Tuesday and “discussed a broad range of topics including the status of AI’s technological advancement… (and) the risk surrounding generative AI.”
According to Zuckerberg, “We had a good, productive conversation about AI and the future of technology,” as reported by Japanese media.

“After the half-hour meeting, I’m really excited about the work that is happening here in Japan,” he declared.

Generative artificial intelligence, led by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, is a technology that can instantly generate text, graphics, and audio in response to basic commands.
Its quick development has been hailed as potentially revolutionary for everything from politics to video games, but there could be drawbacks as well as benefits.

This month, Meta joined 20 other prominent tech companies, including OpenAI, in pledging to crack down on AI content meant to manipulate voters in the run-up to this year’s pivotal elections throughout the globe.

Prior to now, IT firms had decided to employ a standardized watermarking standard to identify photos produced by AI programs like ChatGPT, Meta’s Llama, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Google’s Gemini.

– Samsung and LG meets
On Tuesday evening, Zuckerberg touched down in Seoul via private jet as part of his Asia tour. According to local media, he is scheduled to have a meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
In order to set up a meeting, we are working with Meta,” an official from Yoon’s office informed AFP on Wednesday.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, Zuckerberg met with the CEO of consumer electronics behemoth LG Electronics to talk about extended reality (XR) initiatives.
According to the Korea Economic Daily, Meta and LG are working together to create a high-end headset that will rival Apple’s Vision Pro.
According to South Korean media, the CEO of Meta intends to meet with the head of Samsung Electronics, one of the largest manufacturers of computer chips and cellphones worldwide.

Yonhap reported that Zuckerberg will also meet at Meta’s Seoul office to discuss XR businesses. According to the agency, he will depart for India on Thursday.

According to sources, Zuckerberg will be present at the opulent pre-wedding festivities of Mukesh Ambani’s son, who is the chairman of the Indian oil-to-telecoms conglomerate Reliance, on March 1-3.

Reliance’s digital division Jio Platforms has received billions of dollars from Meta, Google, and other investors as it looks to compete with Amazon and Walmart in India’s sizable e-commerce industry.
