Popp, the captain of Germany, is injured and cannot play in the Euro 2022 championship game

Just before Sunday’s Euro 2022 championship match versus England, Germany was dealt a severe setback when captain and leading scorer Alexandra Popp was forced to withdraw due to an injury sustained during the warm-up.

The Wolfsburg striker tied the all-time record for goals in a single women’s European Championship by scoring six goals in five games en route to the championship game.

In the warm-up, Alex Popp experienced muscular issues, the German Football Federation tweeted. She is replaced in the starting XI by Lea Schueller.

Popp had initially been selected to start for the Wembley final by Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.

But after missing Euro 2013 and 2017, the 31-year-injury old’s curse with the European Championship struck once more.
