Lady Cathy, Alex Ferguson’s wife, passed away.
On Friday afternoon, rumors about the death of the former Manchester United manager’s wife began to circulate. But on Thursday, she passed away.
In 1964, when the Manchester United hero was 23 years old, he met Lady Cathy. Two years later, they got married, and they had three sons: Mark, Darren, and Jason.
Since his passing, accolades, including those from the football community, have poured in.
In a brief statement, Ferguson’s former team wrote, “Everyone at Manchester United expresses our sincere condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family on the demise of Lady Cathy.
“Lady Cathy was Sir Alex’s pillar of support throughout his career and a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Our players will wear black armbands throughout Saturday’s game against Brentford as a sign of respect.
Ferguson discussed his recovery from a brain hemorrhage he experienced in 2018 in a 2021 documentary, saying he had been “terrified” of losing his memory.
Ferguson recounted how his wife had found him in a dreadful state and how having such a near escape had transformed his outlook on life.
Probably not taking things too seriously despite being aware of your vulnerability… If I leave tomorrow, I’ll be happy I had the extra three years I did, he added.
“I’ve felt that way for a while now,” the speaker said.
The audio of Jason’s call to the emergency services after Ferguson became ill at home opens the documentary.
“I tried to get out of my bed and just collapsed,” admitted Ferguson, who left his position as manager of United in 2013.
I was extremely lucky because Cathy (his wife) was downstairs when I tripped over a shoe rack and all the shoes spilled out and created a racket.
The last thing I remember was when she approached and asked me to lean up against the wall.
